Best of 2017

This gallery contains what I consider to be the countdown of my best images from 2017:

Ladies View is one of the absolute best viewpoints in the Irish Killarney National Park. This image came to be at my second (and basically unplanned) visit to this spot since the first time the weather was not appropriate for photography.

This interior shot of the Trinity College Library was definitely not meant to be one of my serious pictures but merely some kind of holiday memento. I assumed that the crowds would ruin the shot but looks like I found a way to overcome the problem. The detailed description of how this image came to be can be found in my second Ireland article.

The amazing landscape around Matera in southern Italy is dominated by this impressive canyon and the medieval town nestled on top of the western rim. This was not an easy spot to reach very early in the morning so I'm quite happy how about the outcome of this shoot.

Definitely the best viewpoint over Prague. This was taken very early in the year so the trees are bare which is less than ideal. The blurry clouds and flowing water due to the long exposure saved the day.

The Italian Amalfi Coast offers a plethora of amazing viewpoints, but this one is one of my favorite. As you may notice a bright daylight shot is very unusual since I almost exclusively use the blue and golden hours of sunrise of sunset for landscape photography. The light during the day is mostly too boring and harsh for interesting results, but there is the exception to the rule every once in a while.

This view on the Charles Bridge in Prague was enhanced by a fantastic sunset.

The second entry of the Amalfi Coast in this list. The sunset over Positano is a characteristic image that I think conveys the atmosphere of this marvelous piece of coastline very well.

The Fortifications of Sant'Agata de' Goti were a location I stumbled upon almost by chance. On the final day of my Italy trip I was looking for possible shooting locations on the way back from the east coast to Naples. I found it by doing some google research and decided that it was definitely worth a try. I was not disappointed.

A classic view over one of Europe's most iconic Landscapes – the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland. This location was very important to me so I planned to spend several days to increase the chance of suitable weather. Turns out the weather was good every single day so I had plenty of time to find the best possible viewpoint.

The in my opinion best image of 2017 was also discovered by me through luck. My exceptionally friendly host at the place I was staying gave me a hint about this place in the vicinity that had this wooded island in a picturesque lake. Of course I had to check that out in the very early morning the next day, but the very bad weather almost prevented me from getting the shot. A tiny gap in the clouds let the sunlight pour on the landscape for less than a minute and that is exactly when this image was taken.
