Recently I had the chance to visit Vienna for a long weekend and initially I was planning on making some mediocre architecture and city shots (which I did) but at the last instance I decided to also bring my big lens with me in case there would be some wildlife to be seen. Boy I'm glad I made up my mind! When I headed to a park in the outskirts of the city some unexpectedly awesome opportunities presented themselves when a Great Crested Grebe was fishing in a pond. I met some fellow photographers there who gave me the hint of visiting the water park in Floridsdorf where some breeding herons can be found at this time of the year. So that was basically how I spent my weekend - shooting birds instead of sightseeing in the city. Take a look and decide for yourself if it was worth it.
